In "A Mid-summer Night's Dream", from Act 1 to Act 3, how did Shakespeare show the transition of emotions such as love, hate and jealousy through different characters?
In "A Mid-summer Night's Dream" we find that how Shakespeare shows the transition of emotions such as love, hate and jealousy through different characters.
At the very first of the comedy we find love through the character of Hermia. Hermia fights with her father to get her beloved Lysander. Hermia's father then takes Hermia to the king. And the result is either Hermia has to married as her father's choice or she has to die or has to passed her whole life as a nun. In this scene we find male dominance in that period.
However, In the comedy we also find that how love makes jealousy. When we talks about Helena we find jealousy inside her. Helena loves Demetrius but Demetrius loves Hermia. So whenever Demetrius wants to express his emotions for Hermia, Helena feels jealousy. And also we find jealousy among Hermia. When Hermia sees that Lysander followed Helena as he was watering by Puck then Hermia also feels jealousy. So, in our society we also see love triangle which is full of jealousy and hatred.
"A Mid-summer Night's Dream" is one of the most famous novels for its transition of emotions. There is a line that, " The course of true love never did run smooth; But, either it was different in blood " Act;1, line;140-142.
Through this line we can say that how people deal with love. They do anything for their love and they even guess that the way of love is more likely bloodshed. For example in "The Illiad" we see that how love makes fight between two countries. I think the desperate sight of love is a threatening for anyone or any nation. In this novel we find Helena as desperate for her love.
Therefore, We find many comic elements also among the characters, among the situations. There are a lot of misunderstandings of love because of the magic flower's juice. A man also could be hatred because of his/her love. When someone snatches others love or feelings then he /she can do anything dangerous which is a bad impact of desperate love. But we didn't find anything so tragic here because this novel is all about comedy. we find many comic elements through love, hate and jealousy.
Indeed, the emotions of the lovers changed because of some magical issues and it basically showed by Shakespeare to make people laughter and delight and as well as to teach people that there is no love like blind and things should be very clear and make it a happy ending.
